John Jones, Marine Staff Sergeant
“...As for the future, I hope to always help other military men and women forever in any way that I can. I hope to graduate one day with degree in business that somehow incorporates helping others that need me in some way. I hope to be a positive influence for others and to set an example for those that have given up hope. I hope to always
be the father and husband that my family needs and to always show them that I am forever grateful that they love me for who I am. "
-John Jones
Marine Staff Sergeant
USMC
Sgt. John Jones’ hummer was hit by a double-stacked anti-tank mine in Iraq.
Date of Injury: 3 January 2005
List of Injuries: Double amputee below the knees, shrapnel in parts of thighs and wrists, some memory and hearing loss, post traumatic stress disorder.
Sgt. Jones was part of a group of veterans featured in the recently released HBO Documentary Film ALIVE DAY MEMORIES: HOME FROM IRAQ.
Executive Producer James Gandolfini interviewed ten Soldiers and Marines who reveal their feelings on their future, their severe disabilities and their devotion to America. Their first-person stories are augmented by harrowing footage from the war-torn streets of Iraq, and from embedded cameras in the vehicles of the soldiers, which was shot when they were injured, as well as disturbing video of IED (Improvised Explosive Device) bombings released by insurgents, and soldiers' personal home videos and photographs. The documentary surveys the physical and emotional cost of war through memories of their "alive day," the day they narrowly escaped death in Iraq.
We feel his portrait proudly captures the Semper Fi of these brave young men and women. And that it underscores the very real, very urgent need for the kind of multi-faceted assistance and rapid-response family support that the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund provides.
